The Challenge
A premium real estate development in Lagos Lagoon was experiencing active shoreline erosion along 1.7 km of road frontage. Without intervention, the erosion threatened to undermine the carriageway and damage land values across the entire development. Lagoon wave action and soft reclaimed subgrade ruled out conventional concrete revetment at this scale.
Our Solution
Willem Olaf designed and installed a geotextile-based erosion control system using 20,000 m² of non-woven geotextile combined with erosion control bags to stabilise the shoreline road edge, dissipate wave energy, and retain embankment fill under lagoon wave action. The system was completed within a single dry-season construction window.
The Outcome
The road shoreline was stabilised across all 1.7 km, protecting the carriageway and enabling the development to proceed on schedule. The system has held through multiple wet seasons without maintenance intervention.
