Road & Highway Infrastructure
The Challenge
Nigeria's road network deteriorates quickly under heavy axle loads, weak lateritic subgrades and intense seasonal rainfall. Without separation and reinforcement, sub-base aggregate mixes into the subgrade, trapped water saturates the pavement, and roads rut, crack and pothole within a few rainy seasons of construction. The result is high maintenance costs, frequent road closures and shortened design lives on corridors that carry the bulk of the country's freight.
Our Solution
Biaxial and triaxial geogrids reinforce weak subgrades, distributing wheel loads to reduce rutting and cut required sub-base thickness. Woven geotextiles separate the subgrade from imported fill, preventing contamination and pumping. Non-woven geotextiles and drainage geocomposites are placed at the pavement edge to remove trapped water before it weakens the structure, extending the time between resurfacing cycles.
Benefits for Road & Highway Infrastructure
- Reduced sub-base thickness and aggregate haulage costs
- Longer intervals between resurfacing and rehabilitation
- Faster construction over soft or waterlogged subgrades
- Lower maintenance demand through the rainy season
