Erosion & Slope Protection
The Challenge
Gully erosion is one of the most severe environmental hazards in South-Eastern Nigeria, where heavy seasonal rainfall on unstable, sandy lateritic soils carves gullies that can grow by tens of metres in a single rainy season. These gullies destroy roads, farmland and buildings, displace communities, and are costly to remediate once they reach a critical size — making early, engineered slope protection essential.
Our Solution
Biaxial and triaxial geogrids reinforce slopes and embankments, increasing resistance to sliding and surface slumping. Woven geotextiles laid beneath topsoil stabilise exposed slope faces and support vegetation establishment, while geogrid-reinforced channel linings resist the scouring flows that drive gully expansion. Together, these systems hold ground in place long enough for vegetation to take over as the long-term protection layer.
Benefits for Erosion & Slope Protection
- Stabilises slopes against rainfall-induced sliding and slumping
- Slows gully expansion and reduces sediment loss
- Supports vegetation establishment for lasting protection
- Lower cost than concrete or masonry slope works
