Water Containment & Irrigation
The Challenge
Irrigation schemes, fish farms and water storage reservoirs across Nigeria lose significant volumes through seepage into sandy or fissured clay soils, undermining dry-season water security for farmers and aquaculture operators. Unlined earth ponds and canals also require constant re-grading as banks erode and slump, adding to operating costs, shortening the productive life of the scheme and increasing the risk of stock losses during prolonged dry spells.
Our Solution
HDPE and LLDPE geomembranes line canals, reservoirs and fish ponds with a continuous, impermeable barrier that eliminates seepage losses. A non-woven geotextile cushion layer protects the membrane from punctures by stones and roots in the subgrade, while welded seams provide a watertight system that holds its shape through wet and dry seasons alike.
Benefits for Water Containment & Irrigation
- Eliminates seepage losses from reservoirs, canals and ponds
- Extends water availability through the dry season
- Protects aquaculture stock from sudden water-level loss
- Reduces re-grading and maintenance costs over the scheme's life
