The Challenge
A 300-million-litre petroleum tank farm required a secondary containment system to meet strict DPR regulations preventing hydrocarbon spills from reaching groundwater. Site topography and soil permeability made conventional concrete bunding inadequate at this scale. The containment system had to be independently seam-tested and certifiable for DPR regulatory audit.
Our Solution
Willem Olaf procured and installed 100,000 m² of HDPE geomembrane as a continuous impermeable liner across all bunded containment areas. Seams were welded using extrusion and wedge welding equipment and independently seam-tested to verify zero leakage before commissioning. Full as-built documentation was provided for DPR regulatory submission.
The Outcome
The containment system met DPR regulatory requirements, protected groundwater, and provided the operator with a certified, auditable secondary containment record for operational insurance and regulatory compliance. One of the largest single HDPE geomembrane installations Willem Olaf has completed to date.
