The Challenge

As Nigerian cities grow, uncontrolled and poorly engineered dumpsites allow leachate to migrate into surrounding soil and groundwater, creating long-term contamination risks for nearby communities and water sources. Engineered landfill cells require a reliable lining and leachate collection system to meet environmental regulations, yet many sites still rely on compacted clay alone, which can crack and lose effectiveness over time.

Our Solution

HDPE geomembranes form the primary containment liner across the base and side slopes of the landfill cell. A geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) provides secondary containment beneath the geomembrane, while a drainage geocomposite or geonet placed above the liner forms the leachate collection layer, channelling leachate to collection points and directing landfill gas to venting systems.
