The Challenge
A petroleum storage facility in Rivers State required a secondary containment lining system within its bunded tank aprons to satisfy environmental and regulatory requirements for spill containment, preventing hydrocarbon ingress into the underlying soil and groundwater in the event of a primary tank failure.
Our Solution
Willem Olaf supplied and supervised installation of HDPE geomembrane as the primary bund liner across the containment floor and berm side slopes, with a drainage geocomposite above the liner routing any accumulation of rainwater and minor spills to sump collection points. The liner was installed with full factory-certified seam welding and post-installation pressure testing.
The Outcome
The secondary containment system met all environmental permit requirements, passing third-party inspection with no defective seams recorded. The facility achieved regulatory sign-off for operational use within the programme timeline.
