Geotextiles
Woven and non-woven fabrics that separate, filter and reinforce soil layers on roads, embankments and drainage systems.
What It Is
Geotextiles are permeable fabrics — woven from slit-film polypropylene yarns or needle-punched from continuous polypropylene or polyester filaments into a non-woven sheet — placed within or on soil to perform separation, filtration, drainage, reinforcement or protection functions. Woven geotextiles provide high tensile strength for reinforcement and separation beneath road pavements, while non-woven geotextiles allow water to pass while retaining fine soil particles, making them ideal for filtration around drainage pipes and behind retaining walls. Willem Olaf's geotextile range is suited to Nigeria's clay-rich and lateritic soils, supplied in roll widths designed for fast, low-overlap installation on site.
Key Properties / Technical Overview

| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Mass per unit area | 150 – 600 g/m² |
| Tensile strength | 8 – 55 kN/m (EN ISO 10319) |
| CBR puncture resistance | 1.5 – 7.0 kN (EN ISO 12236) |
| Water permeability | 10 – 125 l/m²/s |
| Apparent opening size (O90) | 70 – 200 microns |
| UV strength retention | ≥ 70% after 500 hours |
Applications
- Separation between subgrade and sub-base on road projects
- Filtration layers in subsurface drainage systems
- Reinforcement of embankments on soft or laterite soils
- Coastal and riverbank erosion protection
- Railway track-bed stabilisation
- Wrapping for French drains and soakaways
Benefits
High Puncture Resistance
Withstands sharp aggregate and stony laterite subgrades during installation.
Effective Filtration
Retains fine soil particles while allowing water to pass, preventing pumping and clogging.
Rapid Installation
Lightweight rolls that are quick to lay and overlap on site.
